50 Uses for Rubber Stamps – Part 12 Learning the Arts

learning sewing with prestamped patterns

Part 12, the final part of our 50 Uses for Rubber Stamps series, brings creative ways to use your rubber stamps to aid in learning various art styles!

50. Paint-By-Number, Sewing, & Carving

→ Want to paint, but don’t have a knack for it? Have a child who wants to get into painting but don’t know how to get them started? Art lessons can be expensive, as can art supplies and instructional books. Create your own DIY paint-by-number art using a custom rubber stamp. With one stamp, you can make as many designs as your imagination can dream up. Get your child involved by having them help create their own paint-by-number projects. Make it a family activity for everyone to enjoy.

→ Just learning how to sew, stitch, or embroider? Looking to save time on intricate projects? Prestamp your patterns right onto the fabric! This also comes in handy when teaching beginners in any of these arts. Prestamped patterns improves accuracy and raises the overall quality of the finished product. No more guessing. No more sticking yourself with all those pins while trying to hold together a paper pattern. Stamp your pattern, sew your masterpiece, and say goodbye to all that extra stress and hassle. Working so smoothly and efficiently will give you an extra boost of confidence as you hone your craft.

→ Are you learning to carve wood or a similar medium? Rubber stamps can be used to prestamp patterns onto multiple mediums. Much like prestamping cross stitch, embroidery, and sewing patterns, this allows you to create a template to work from when creating your artistic masterpiece. Having a prestamped pattern will help accelerate the learning process by providing a guide for beginners to work from. As with sewing, having a prestamped pattern improves accuracy and ensures a higher quality finished product. This will allow you to focus on practicing your technique rather than figuring out what pattern you’re supposed to be carving.

50 Uses for Rubber Stamps – Part 11 (DIY Phone Case)

DIY custom phone case

Part 11 of our 50 Uses for Rubber Stamps series brings a great idea for creating your own custom DIY phone case!

49 – DIY Phone Case

Here are the 4 simple steps to creating your own custom phone case.

Supplies

  • Your phone
  • A clear phone case
  • A piece of paper
  • a pencil
  • scissors

Step 1: Cut the paper to fit the case

You want the paper to be the correct size to fit in the case without too much extra to spare. The easiest way to do this is to take the case, lay it face down on the piece of paper, and trace the shape of the case. This will give you a good estimate to start with. You can trim to fit as needed.

Step 2: Trace holes for the camera and speaker

Once you have the paper cut to fit, you need to cut out the holes for the camera and speaker. Simply place the paper in the case and use your pencil to trace the speaker and camera holes onto the paper. Cutout these holes and double check to make sure they are lined up correctly.

Step 3: Decorate your new case

This is the fun part! Take your new custom rubber stamp and go to town. No more being limited by the imagination of commercial case designers. Create a one-of-a-kind case that fits your personal style.

Step 4: Assemble your custom phone case

It’s time to put all the pieces together. Put the paper in the case and snap your phone into place. Now you’ve got a custom case that can’t be found on any store shelf.

Step 5: Add some variety

Why stop at one pattern? Use your first design as a template to create more. Take the paper out of the, trace it as many times as you like and rather than one custom case you’ve now got unlimited designs all for the price of one! Want a different colored case to match every outfit? No problem, just trace a new pattern. Change your mind about a style choice? Just create a new style. Unlimited style at minimal cost!

50 Uses for Rubber Stamps – Part 10 (Stationary Projects)

stationary project stamp ideas

Part 10 of our 50 Uses for Rubber Stamps series brings great ideas for stationary projects! Here are a few great ideas from Rubber Stamp Station to help you narrow down what kind of stamp you need for your stationary projects.

47. Faux Foil Printing on Stationary

Foil printing on business cards and other stationary can get very expensive. Fortunately, it is possible to add your own faux foil printing to spice up your custom stationary . All you need is a stamp pad with metallic ink! Faux foil borders, text, and logos will really set you business card, invitations, and other custom stationary projects apart from the rest of the crowd without costing a fortune.

Product Warning: Trodat stamps were not made to be used with other brands of ink. Using non-Trodat ink may permanently damage your stamp and render it unable to function for its intended purpose.

48. Multicolored Stamp Impressions

Are you tired of always stamping with the same color of ink? When you use a Trodat stamp that requires an ink pad, you can purchase multiple colors of ink. But, rather than simply stamping with one color of ink, you can carefully apply multiple colors to create a unique, multicolored impression. All you need is your custom stamp, Trodat ink pads containing the colors of your choice, and a small paint brush for each color. It is best to have one paint brush for each color so you avoid having to stop and wash your brush between colors. Once you have all your supplies, simply take each brush and apply the individual colors where you want them to show up on the stamp. When you are done, test the stamp impression on a piece of scrap paper.

It may take some trial and error to figure out how much ink to apply. You will likely need to apply several coats to each section as the ink will be harder to apply with a brush than it would be by simply pressing the stamp into the pad. The more intricate the stamp design is, the more difficult this technique will be. Bear this in mind when selecting your stamp for this projects. Larger lettering and less detailed graphics will make this project easier.
