How to Condition Rubber Stamps in 4 Simple Steps

Screen Shot 2016-06-24 at 10.36.50 AMHave you ever noticed that after many uses, your rubber stamps no longer create as clear of an impression as they once did? At this point, many people think they have no choice but to purchase new stamps. Our online rubber stamp seller is here to tell you there’s another option! It’s called rubber stamp conditioning, and it has the power to revitalize your stamps so they go back to making crisp impressions each time you use them. To test it out for yourself, just follow these easy steps:

  1. Wipe the stuck-on ink off on paper. Sometimes, wiping off the built-up ink residue from a stamp’s surface is all it takes to improve its impression. To try this method, repeatedly place the stamp on a piece of scrap paper, lightly twisting it each time while it’s in contact with the paper. If this doesn’t fully improve the impression, proceed to the next step.
  2. Do some cleaning. An all-purpose stamp cleaner such as Staz-On will work wonders when it comes to renewing heavily used stamps. Simply spray some on the stamp and scrub gently using an old toothbrush. Once you’ve done so, hold the stamp up to a light and check for any remaining glossy areas. If there are any left, clean the stamp again using the same process and/or go to the next step.
  3. Run a large pencil eraser over the stamp surface. If your stamp isn’t holding ink in certain areas, it will result in uneven impressions. To fix this issue, rub a pencil eraser over the stamp’s surface to rough up the areas that aren’t retaining the ink.
  4. Sand the top layer of the stamp face. Using a four-sided sanding block, which can be found in the nail care aisle of any drugstore, lightly buff the surface of the stamp to reveal a fresh layer of rubber. This step essentially serves the same purpose as the previous one, but some people find that it works better.

When you follow these steps, we think you’ll be impressed at how much more precise your rubber stamp impressions become!
