Changing the ink pad in your self-inking stamp

self-inking stamp

Self-inking stamps like the self-inking Trodat “Printy” stamp make much less mess than stamps that need a separate ink pad for every use. They eliminate the need for ink pads and reduce the risk of ink stains on fingers and clothes. But self-inking stamps still require ink that needs to be changed periodically to maintain that quality, mess-free performance we all love. Replacing the dried up Trodat ink in your self-inking stamp is simple.

Purchase a Replacement Pad

It is important to ensure that the replacement pad is an exact match to your Trodat self-inking stamp. Ink pads cannot be cut to fit or used interchangeably. Simply match the model number of the stamp to the model number of the Printy replacement pad to ensure the correct fit. All of the replacement pads can be found on our website.

Necessary Supplies

  • Sheet of scrap paper
  • Trodat replacement pad
  • Your self-inking stamp

Steps to Replace the Pad

Step 1

Place your stamp on the sheet of scrap paper so that the Trodat logo faces away from you.

Step 2

Locate the thin rectangular insert that indicates the currently installed pad.

Step 3

Press down on the top of the stamp while pressing the small buttons on the sides of the top part of the stamp.

Step 4

Turn the stamp around so the Trodat logo faces you and press the button below the logo.

Step 5

You should see the ink pad pop out slightly from the other side of the stamp.

Step 6

Pull out the old ink pad.

Step 7

Unwrap the new ink pad and insert into the chamber with the inked side face up.

Step 8

Press down on the top of the stamp to lock the pad into place.

Step 9

Use the scrap paper to do a few test prints. Once you get a print with even ink coverage, you are ready to go!

Step 10

Recycle the old ink pad. All Trodat ink is non-toxic.

Quick Tips for Cleaning Ink off Skin and Fabrics

When using rubber stamps, there is always a risk of getting ink on yourself or your clothes. Don’t panic! Here are some quick tips from your Trodat rubber stamp experts at the Rubber Stamp Station on how to remove ink from your hands and clothes.

Cleaning Ink Off Bare Skin

If you get ink on your skin, you only need a few supplies to clean it off:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Paper towels
  • Gojo (or similar soap containing pumice)

It is simple enough to clean most of the ink off bare skin with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Once a majority of the ink has been removed, you can simply wash the rest of it off with warm water and a soap containing pumice such as Gojo. Any leftover discoloration of the skin should disappear within 24 hours.

If you are unlucky enough to get the ink on clothing or upholstery, the cleaning process gets a little more complicated. There are several options to try.

Cleaning Ink Off Fabrics

Option 1

You will need a few supplies:

  • 1 quart warm water
  • ½ tsp. dishwashing detergent
  • 1 tbsp. ammonia

All these ingredients get mixed together to create a solution in which the stained fabric should be soaked for half an hour. After soaking, the fabric should be rinsed well in warm water. If some ink still remains, it is time to move on to the next option.

Option 2

This is not a good option for cotton or linen based fabrics, but should work on most others. The supplies you will need include:

  • 1 quart of warm water
  • 1 tbsp. white vinegar

These should be mixed to create a solution in which the stained fabric should be soaked for one hour before rinsing in warm water. If some staining still remains, there is a third option to try.

Option 3

This option requires:

  • Rubbing alcohol diluted with warm water in a 1:1 ratio
  • Paper towels or cotton balls

Dilute the rubbing alcohol with warm water and use a paper towel or cotton ball to apply the solution directly to the stain. Hold the solution over the stain until it begins to loosen. When the stain begins to loosen, gently dab it away. Depending on the size and severity of the stain, you may need to reapply this several times before the stain begins to dissipate. Once you have gotten as much of the stain out as possible, rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Keys to Success

  1. Always use warm water as this will loosen the stain and make your job easier. Cold water will set the stain and make cleaning ink stains that much more difficult.
  2. The sooner you remove the stain, the more you will be able to get out. The longer you wait, the less you will be able to salvage, especially with delicate fabrics.

We hope you get that stain out! On the other hand, you may want to leave a mark on fabric—you can use a clothing marker stamp to leave an identifying impression on clothes, towels, uniforms, etc. Never lose a garment or accessory again!

3 Easy and Creative Ways to Store Your Rubber Stamps

Rubber stamp collectors understand how essential it is to keep their stamps appropriately stored. Proper storage will prolong the life of the stamp and ensure it is easy to find when you need it. There are many things to consider when storing your stamps. They should always be stored in a cool and shady area of your home or office. Storage in darker areas ensures that the stamps don’t get too dry, which reduces the quality. Are you tired of storing your rubber stamp collection in a drawer or shoebox? Here are three easy and creative ways to store your rubber stamps that will preserve their quality.

  1. Store in a hanging shoe holder in your closet.  Keeping your rubber stamps in a hanging shoe holder in your closet it a great way to save space. Since most closets are dark and window-free, this option also helps to ensure the long-lasting quality of the stamps. Just make sure that your heavier stamps are placed at the bottom of a pile, so they don’t put too much weight on smaller stamps. You can use the extra pockets for storing additional craft or office supplies.
  2. Install shelving behind a door. If you have an extensive stamp collection, this is another convenient and creative storage option. Shelves should be smaller than the length and width of the door for full coverage when open. The shelves should also be no wider than the what is needed to hold your largest stamp so that the door can open fully without damaging any of the stamps.
  3. Keep your stamps sealed in a three-ring binder. For expert organization and preservation, consider storing your stamps in sealed pockets within a large binder. One advantage of binder storage is the ease of location. Keep your binder on the desk, bookshelf, or in a cabinet. Make sure that it has a label for easy access to your stamp collection. Keep the stamps sealed in heavyweight sheet protectors than can easily be reopened and closed with each use.

Need stamps? Shop At Rubber Stamp Station

Each of these creative storage options will keep your stamps in excellent condition for years to come. To learn more about the best rubber stamps on the internet, call our customer service hotline at 1-850-7STAMPS or visit our website today!

New Guidelines for PA Notary Stamps: Order New Notary Stamps Today!

Do you work as a notary public in Pennsylvania, or are you training to be one? If so, we want to make sure you’re aware of the major changes instituted by the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts (RULONA), which will take effect on October 26th, 2017. For a full summary of the new law, click here.

Naturally, at Rubber Stamp Station, we’re interested in the changes coming to the official PA notary stamp. The official notary seal or seal embosser is the most-used tool for notaries. It’s used to authenticate the notary public’s signature and make the notarial act legitimate. You won’t accomplish much if you don’t have that seal of approval! Make sure your notary stamp follows the guidelines below.

Changes To The Official PA Notary Stamp

The official stamp of the notary (formerly called the notary seal) must contain these items in the following order:

  • The words “Commonwealth of Pennsylvania”**
  • The words “Notary Seal”
  • The name as it appears on the commission of the notary public and the words “Notary Public”
  • The name of the county in which the notary public maintains an office
  • The date the notary public’s commission expires
  • The notary commission number*

**New items that were not necessary until now. Here’s an example of a RULONA-compliant stamp:

The size of the stamp remains the same (a maximum height of 1 inch and a width of 3 ½ inches with a plain border), and the use of an embosser is still optional. These changes aren’t drastic, but you will still have to order new notary stamps for your duties.

Order New PA Notary Stamps Today

We have the approved Pennsylvania notary stamp layout for you to customize on our website. All you have to do is fill out your information and place an order! With August swiftly coming to an end, it’s time to start thinking about back to school. If you’re a teacher, this includes putting the finishing touches on your classroom for the new school year. Hanging posters, filling bookshelves and stocking up on school supplies are probably all on your to-do list. But what about buying rubber stamps for teachers? Rubber stamps can come in handy in many different classroom scenarios. For instance, they allow you to:

  1. Communicate messages to parents. Rubber stamps for teachers can be personalized with whatever text you’d like, meaning you can stamp messages on your students’ papers for their parents to read. For instance, if there’s a field trip coming up, you could stamp, “Don’t forget to pack lunch for the field trip!”
  2. Give your students some positive reinforcement. When students do well on a quiz or homework assignment, reward them by putting a stamp that says “A+” or “Nice job!” on the paper. In addition to words of praise, you can also create custom rubber stamps that include images of stars, smiley faces and more.
  3. Keep the classroom organized. Yet another practical purpose of rubber stamps for busy teachers is labeling supplies around the classroom. Plus, you can create a stamp that says “This Book Belongs To:” to keep your students’ books from getting mixed up.
  4. Take the effort out of paperwork. As a teacher, chances are you encounter a lot of documents that need your signature and the date. Save yourself time and work by investing in a custom signature stamp and a dater stamp.

As you can see, there are tons of ways to use rubber stamps in your classroom whether you teach first grade or eleventh.

5 Ways Name Badges Create a Better Workplace

Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 3.09.12 PM

In recent years, many companies have stopped requiring their employees to wear name badges at work. The reasoning behind this change seems to be that it saves money, eliminates the hassle of remembering to wear the name badge every day, etc. Still, we here at Rubber Stamp Station believe there is far more to gain from wearing a name badge than there is to lose. Here’s why we think so:

  1. Name badges eliminate the anxiety that comes from forgetting coworkers’ names. If you work at a large company (or you’re just plain bad at remembering names), name badges are a huge help. Instead of stressing about accidentally calling someone by the wrong name, you’ll be able to focus your energy on more important things throughout the work day.
  2. Clients and customers will feel more comfortable entering an organization where the associates are wearing name badges. When people from other companies come to your business, they might not be familiar with the appearance of the employee they’re seeking. Wearing name badges at your company will make it easier for visitors to track down the right associate, thereby making things easier for everyone involved.
  3. Name badges encourage you to act more professionally. Studies have shown that wearing a name badge makes employees less likely to lie, treat customers rudely and create conflicts in the workplace. That’s because name badges hold workers accountable for their actions – when everyone can clearly see the employee’s name on a badge, it makes it impossible for that worker to blame his/her wrongdoings on someone else.
  4. You can customize your name badge to reflect your personality. By personalizing the color, font and design of your name badge, you can use it as a way to give coworkers and clients a little bit of insight into who you are without even opening your mouth. Plus, you can provide additional information about yourself by adding your job title, company location or whatever else you’d like to the name badge.
  5. Name badges inspire conversation. For many people, it’s easier to start talking to someone if you already know something about them. Being able to call a coworker you’ve never met by his/her first name right off the bat will make you feel more comfortable initiating a conversation.

Have we convinced you to wear a name badge at work, even if your company doesn’t require it? Head over to the Rubber Stamp Station website now to view our selection of the best name badges around!

We Offer Tons of Name Badge Options

At RSS, we allow you to create an amazing custom name badge by providing several different options for color combination and size. Plus, we give you three choices for your name badge fastener: pin, pocket or magnet.
